PLAYING LUKE

Character overview

Luke combines Sand Blast and grounded checks with a combo system that can grow with your execution. You do not need every perfect Flash Knuckle route to start. A dependable light Flash Knuckle finish and a plan for the resulting knockdown provide a more useful foundation.

Strengths

  • Sand Blast and crouching medium punch support a game in which you check movement instead of constantly chasing the opponent.
  • The combo material offers substantial punish conversions and several finishers for different screen positions, leaving room to improve without replacing the whole gameplan.

Weaknesses

  • Perfect Flash Knuckle timing adds an execution demand. A route that drops under match pressure can give away the knockdown you were trying to earn.
  • Drive Rush and extended conversions compete for meter. Spending heavily on every touch can leave the next interaction harder to manage.

Best range / preferred gameplan

Use Sand Blast and crouching medium punch to make the opponent commit around your ground range. Convert a close opening into a familiar finish, then approach with a strike or throw. Near the corner, switch to the corner route you practiced rather than forcing a midscreen juggle.

Key tools to learn first

Sand Blast

Compare its strengths and the OD follow-up in the move list. Recognizing the version is more useful than treating all projectiles as interchangeable.

Crouching medium punch

Learn the distance at which it checks an approach, then connect that hit to one of the simple conversions in the combo guide.

Light Flash Knuckle

Start with a listed route that ends here and learn the wake-up approach. Add perfect-timing routes as a separate execution task.

Beginner practice order

  1. Make one finish reliable

Select the simple light Flash Knuckle route and repeat it from both sides without using the perfect version as a requirement.

  2. Connect offense to the knockdown

After that finish, practice the listed Drive Rush approach into medium punch or throw. Check the defender’s wake-up action rather than only the combo counter.

  3. Add a corner conversion

Learn the light Rising Uppercut corner finish before adding harder Flash Knuckle juggles. Keep a separate punish route for a blocked reversal.

Common mistakes

  • Measuring improvement only by perfect-knuckle combo damage while leaving basic confirms inconsistent.
  • Using the same juggle spacing in the corner and midscreen without checking the route conditions.

COMBO PRACTICE NOTES

LUKE: choosing and practising your routes

Luke practice is not just about perfect Flash Knuckle timing. Pair each ender with its follow-up pressure so the route has a clear purpose in a match.

Strength to build around

Drive Rush crouching MP and Suppressor are notable offensive tools.

Limitation to plan for

Combo consistency can be a hurdle; expand from reliable routes gradually.

What to learn first

Do not begin by requiring perfect timing in every route. Prioritise light Flash Knuckle enders and crouching MK cancel Drive Rush; add perfect inputs after your basic routes are reliable.

Turn the route into a match decision

Separate midscreen Flash Knuckle, Rising Uppercut, and DDT enders. In the corner, study light Rising Uppercut knockdowns and forward-throw situations separately.

These practice notes follow the published guide and combo material. Check the combo page for route conditions and the frame table for move values.
