PLAYING SAGAT

Character overview

Sagat builds a grounded plan around reach, Tiger Shot and the response to an opponent who jumps. His combo material also gives Tiger Knee and Tiger Uppercut finishes with distinct follow-ups. Learn to convert the hit you earned before adding the Tiger Nexus branches.

Strengths

  • Long-reaching ground attacks and Tiger Shot support deliberate range control rather than requiring constant close-range exchanges.
  • The guide includes several knockdown routes, allowing a confirmed opening to lead into pressure as well as damage.

Weaknesses

  • A long-range plan can become predictable if it uses the same projectile timing regardless of movement.
  • The approach after a Tiger Knee route differs from a light Uppercut finish. His range does not make those knockdown timings interchangeable.

Best range / preferred gameplan

Hold a range where standing medium kick or the appropriate Tiger Shot asks the opponent to commit. Stay ready for the air approach rather than automatically throwing again. After a confirmed conversion, decide whether the listed Knee setup or Uppercut Drive Rush sequence fits your position and available meter.

Key tools to learn first

Tiger Shot

Compare the high and low versions in the move list. Practice the ground-control decision together with watching for a jump.

Standing medium kick

Measure its reach against forward movement so your neutral plan includes a grounded check between projectiles.

Tiger Knee Crush and Tiger Uppercut

Learn one combo finish for each and keep its follow-up attached to the route that produced it.

Beginner practice order

  1. Control ground and air

Record a walking approach and a jump. Alternate your projectile or medium-kick choice with the anti-air response instead of repeating a fixed rhythm.

  2. Reproduce the Knee setup

Practice the guide’s target-combo finish into heavy Tiger Knee and the listed timing sequence afterward.

  3. Add the Uppercut approach

From the documented light Uppercut finish, test the Drive Rush strike and throw choices, including waiting against a reversal recording.

Common mistakes

  • Continuing a projectile rhythm after the opponent has started timing jumps around it.
  • Borrowing a Tiger Knee follow-up for a light Uppercut finish without checking the starting situation.

COMBO PRACTICE NOTES

SAGAT: choosing and practising your routes

Sagat’s basic practice starts with Tiger Uppercut enders, then adds extensions from heavy Tiger Knee into light Tiger Uppercut.

Strength to build around

Several enders provide wake-up pressure options.

What to learn first

First stabilise crouching LK into standing LP and medium Tiger Uppercut, plus standing MP into crouching LP and medium Tiger Uppercut.

Turn the route into a match decision

Distinguish Drive Rush after light Tiger Uppercut from the jump setup after an airborne heavy Tiger Knee hit. Study lights, walking throw, and shimmy choices after blocked standing MP separately.

These practice notes follow the published guide and combo material. Check the combo page for route conditions and the frame table for move values.

SAGAT video lessons

Sagat’s collection progresses from moves and combos to a second lesson on Tiger Nexus, opening up defense and burnout. Matchup advice and positioning-focused footage are listed separately.

Original video titles and Japanese commentary are preserved. Balance-update opinions and numerical examples belong to the version recorded; use the linked frame and combo pages for current reference data.
