PLAYING JP

Character overview

JP can make the opponent solve a sequence of ranged threats rather than a single projectile. Triglav, Torbalan and Departure serve different parts of that plan. Close confirms remain important: a Stribog finish or a practiced setup can help turn a nearby opening back into a position you control.

Strengths

  • His ranged toolkit offers distinct threats and placements, supporting a layered plan at long distance.
  • Departure setups provide choices after a prepared knockdown, including delayed attacks and movement, rather than only repeated projectile use.

Weaknesses

  • The middle distance between zoning space and a close confirm needs attention. Continuing a long-range sequence after the opponent gets there can be a poor fit.
  • Setplay has prerequisites. A Departure sequence learned after a specific juggle is not interchangeable with placing a portal while the opponent can move freely.

Best range / preferred gameplan

Establish room for the ranged sequence you have practiced, and watch the opponent’s approach between inputs. When they move into midrange, switch attention to grounded checks such as crouching medium punch. Convert a close hit before deciding whether to create distance or set up Departure pressure.

Key tools to learn first

Triglav and Torbalan

Learn their separate roles and inputs rather than memorizing an undifferentiated projectile pattern.

Crouching medium punch and Stribog

Use the guide’s close conversion to connect a successful ground check to a finish you recognize.

Departure

Begin with one listed knockdown setup. Learn when the placement occurs before adding teleport or delayed-attack choices.

Beginner practice order

  1. Notice the range transition

Record an opponent moving forward between ranged threats. Pause the zoning sequence when they enter your grounded-check range.

  2. Finish a close opening

Practice a simple Stribog route from the combo page, including its spacing requirement, before adding a more elaborate juggle.

  3. Build one portal sequence

Recreate the listed corner setup after its required airborne finish. Test the delayed attack separately from the teleport option.

Common mistakes

  • Continuing to input long-range threats after the opponent has already crossed into midrange.
  • Copying a Departure follow-up without reproducing the knockdown that gives time to place it.

COMBO PRACTICE NOTES

JP: choosing and practising your routes

JP’s practice sequence moves from basic Stribog enders to Torbalan and Triglav extensions, then Departure setups.

Strength to build around

Offense from very long range is a strength.

Limitation to plan for

Midrange needs different responses from his preferred long-range situations.

What to learn first

First stabilise crouching LP into standing LP and light Stribog, plus standing MK into medium Stribog. Add Drive Rush extensions afterwards.

Turn the route into a match decision

Study corner Stribog knockdowns separately from throw, strike, and teleport choices after a setup. Practise the next action after a normal ender before adding long SA2 routes.

These practice notes follow the published guide and combo material. Check the combo page for route conditions and the frame table for move values.
