PLAYING CHUN-LI

Character overview

Chun-Li is a movement-and-spacing character whose conversions become more elaborate as you learn charge, stance and air routes. Her starting point can be much smaller: walk into a useful range, confirm a medium-punch sequence and finish with Spinning Bird Kick before deciding how to approach again.

Strengths

  • Her walking movement supports small spacing adjustments, letting you seek a grounded opening without committing to a jump.
  • The guide offers carry, damage and Super Art meter-building routes, so a practiced conversion can serve the position you want next.

Weaknesses

  • Charge preparation, stance inputs and air follow-ups create separate execution demands. Learning them all at once can obscure the basic hit confirm.
  • A corner forward throw should not be treated as an automatic repeat-throw loop. Her corner offense also needs the knockdown setups listed for her combo enders.

Best range / preferred gameplan

Use walking adjustments and Kikoken to work toward medium-punch or crouching medium-kick range. Once close, convert the opening into a manageable Spinning Bird Kick route. Build corner offense around the actual ender; add stance high/low choices only after the underlying timing is familiar.

Key tools to learn first

Kikoken

Learn how preparing charge fits around movement. A projectile plan and a walking plan need to work together rather than compete for your attention.

Standing medium punch

The standing medium punch, crouching medium punch, medium Spinning Bird Kick sequence is the recommended starting conversion in the Japanese guide.

Spinning Bird Kick and Tensho Kicks

Keep their finishers separate in practice. The guide gives different movement and stance follow-ups for the resulting knockdowns.

Beginner practice order

  1. Prepare charge inside a combo

Start holding down after standing medium punch, then complete the basic medium Spinning Bird Kick route. Watch input history when it fails.

  2. Attach one approach

Use that same finish and rehearse the listed dash into walking throw or medium punch before adding stance execution.

  3. Learn a single stance route

Choose the simple crouching medium kick Drive Rush route. Add the air route for meter gain only after the grounded version works consistently.

Common mistakes

  • Trying maximum-damage stance and air routes before charge preparation is stable.
  • Copying another character’s corner throw timing instead of practicing Chun-Li’s own ender-specific offense.

COMBO PRACTICE NOTES

CHUN-LI: choosing and practising your routes

Chun-Li uses Spinning Bird Kick, Tensho Kicks, and air follow-ups for different finishes. The guide separates basic grounded routes from stance and air-combo practice.

Strength to build around

Fast walking speed supports spacing adjustments.

What to learn first

Start with light attacks into Spinning Bird Kick, the standing MP to crouching MP route, and cancel Drive Rush from crouching MK.

Turn the route into a match decision

Study wake-up pressure after medium Spinning Bird Kick and heavy Tensho Kicks separately. When a route fails, identify whether the issue was the stance input, charge, or air follow-up.

These practice notes follow the published guide and combo material. Check the combo page for route conditions and the frame table for move values.
