PLAYING MANON

Character overview

Manon builds a close-range strike/throw decision while increasing the value of her command grab through medals. Her long standing heavy kick helps her contest space, but a poke and a grab are different tasks. Learn how a confirmed target combo or a medal-building conversion creates the next decision.

Strengths

  • Medals carry between rounds, so successful medal-building actions contribute beyond the current exchange.
  • Her punch target combos and anti-air conversion material offer ways to connect a grounded or airborne opening to her close-range plan.

Weaknesses

  • A command-grab plan still needs a way to reach a defender who moves away. Repeatedly chasing the grab can make her approach easy to recognize.
  • Choosing a medal-building route is a reward trade-off. Optimizing future grab damage does not automatically maximize the present hit.

Best range / preferred gameplan

Use standing heavy kick range to make retreat less comfortable, then look for a confirmed punch sequence rather than a blind grab attempt. Once close, make strikes part of the threat. After a command grab, use the appropriate follow-up spacing instead of assuming the next grab is already in range.

Key tools to learn first

Standing heavy kick

Measure its reach against an opponent walking back. This is a space-control tool, not a guarantee that a follow-up grab will reach.

Punch target combos

Practice confirming the opening before completing the sequence. Their value includes the close decision described in the character assessment.

Rond-point and Renversé

The guide includes an OD Rond-point anti-air conversion into Renversé. Learn it separately from a grounded command-grab attempt.

Beginner practice order

  1. Recognize the target-combo hit

Use random guard for a punch starter, focusing on completing the sequence when the opening connects.

  2. Earn a medal from an anti-air

Record a repeatable jump and practice the listed Rond-point conversion before varying the jump distance.

  3. Balance the close decision

After one practiced entry, alternate a strike and Manège Doré against recorded guard and jump. Check distance after each reset.

Common mistakes

  • Pursuing another medal even when a simpler damage route would finish the round.
  • Treating a frightened opponent as certain to stay grounded and attempting the same grab repeatedly.

COMBO PRACTICE NOTES

MANON: choosing and practising your routes

Manon practice separates medal-building combos from strike and command-grab pressure. The basic routes into medium Renversé are a useful starting point.

Strength to build around

Medals persist between rounds, carrying earlier progress into later rounds.

Limitation to plan for

Medal-building choices involve a trade-off with immediate damage.

What to learn first

Practise standing MP into cancel Drive Rush, crouching MP, back HP, and medium Renversé. Also prepare a reliable light-attack route into heavy Rond-point.

Turn the route into a match decision

Heavy Rond-point enders and command-grab knockdowns leave different spacing. Consult their separate guide sections rather than applying the same setup to both.

These practice notes follow the published guide and combo material. Check the combo page for route conditions and the frame table for move values.

MANON video lessons

Manon’s starter lesson is explicitly labeled Season 1 and focuses on levels and command throws. A separate discussion covers her accessibility and weaknesses; compare old examples with current frame data.

Original video titles and Japanese commentary are preserved. Balance-update opinions and numerical examples belong to the version recorded; use the linked frame and combo pages for current reference data.
